One of the things we focus on when building an online wellness business is driving traffic to your website. Your website is the home of your business and where all the magic happens. Most people know traffic is important, but with every online business out there, we are all fighting for it.
Since growing website traffic is such a common goal, I knew I had to do an episode to break down the three main ways to drive traffic to your website.
Throughout the episode, I will give you examples of these strategies and encourage you to choose one from each path to driving traffic to your online business. Once you understand the three main ways, you will know how to create a more well-rounded marketing strategy.

So lately I have been talking a lot about content creation and I’m going over the various topics of helping you create content, find inspiration for content, different content ideas, so that you can stay consistent with that. And of course, a lot of people who create content, they want to have an audience, they want it to be found, to be read, to be listened to or watched. So I wanted to do this episode about the three main ways to get traffic to your websites since most of your content is typically, at home on your website. So, because it’s so, like talked about all the time and it can be really, really frustrating for people because content creation is a lot of work. You put a lot of thought and effort into it. So when you put it out there and you just hear crickets, it can just be so frustrating.
00:55 So I know what that’s like. And so I wanted to get you a simple framework just to understand what your options are and then you can get creative from there. So, yeah, let’s get started on these three main ways to get traffic to your website. Okay. So as we get started and we go through this episode, I’m going to talk about, you know, the three main ways and I’m going to give examples within each of the ways that you can get traffic to your website. And I want you to really be thinking about it because at the end I want you to choose at least one strategy if you’re not already doing it, from each section. So keep that in mind as we go through them. And if you are already doing it, but you feel like you could be focused on focusing on it more and being more consistent with it, then that’s what I want you to do.
01:49 So going into the first one, the first one is to buy it. I’m buying it as a very simple concept. A lot of people are aware of Facebook ads and you know, you can also do Google ads. There’s also linked in if your audiences there, you can have success in all of these. They are their own skillset sometimes. But Facebook is the ads with the reach. They can be so cheap that even if you’re not good at them, you can still get pretty good results. They can be a very, very effective and I’ve seen a lot of people get a lot of great success without even being very good at them. So it just depends. But that is a way that you can drive traffic to your website is to pay for it. Of course I’m doing it through Facebook. You would make traffic campaigns or conversion campaigns and that’s where you set up the Facebook ad to make the objective of the ad to just send traffic to your website.
02:53 Now there’s a few reasons why this might be a good idea for you. It depends on what your overall goal is, but you can pay for this traffic. You can’t do it forever. You’re going to have to do some other things. If this is your only way of driving traffic to your website, obviously it’s going to be very costly and your ROI is going to be very low. So this isn’t going to be your sole strategy, but it is a strategy depending on what your goal is. And if you use Facebook ads in the future for different things, for specific campaigns, when you are doing a launch or you were trying to get the word out for your webinar or you’re trying to build your email list with a freebie of some sort, I’m having a traffic campaign that just sends traffic to your website, can help Facebook create an audience for you.
03:48 And what that means is that if you have the Facebook pixel installed on your website, then Facebook will keep track of all of the people that went to your website before. And then you can retarget those people with a separate ad. And you can also create what is called a look alike audience. And it’s where you tell Facebook app from creating an audience where you tell Facebook to target people who are just like those website visitors that you had with your other ad. So there’s lots and lots of strategies there. I don’t want to go too far off, but there are some good reasons why you would pay for, website traffic. The second way that you can get website traffic is to borrow it. So you either buy it or you borrow it. And what I mean by borrowing it is typically some of the most popular ways of doing that is guest blogging or podcasts, guests, or, uh, social media.
04:50 So there’s lots of things you can do within each of these. Guest blogging is a pretty straightforward, you have, if you have a blog and you write content, you can pitch your work to a relevant site that’s not, it’s not going to be a direct competitor, but someone who has a business that has a very similar audience as you, where your work would be, valuable to them. So you want to find businesses to partner up with. And there’s other ways that you can do this too. Like if you have a podcast, you can have people on your show and you can invite people in your show and interview them and get some really, really great content out of that. I talked about that in a few episodes back. I believe it was an episode about finding ways to create more content and it’s just a way that you can serve your audience and you’re not actually coming up with the content.
05:49 You do have to prep, you know, questions and, uh, you do have to like find a good person to interview that will give your audience some value. But outside of that, it’s a really great way to give your audience a different perspective. Not only can you have people on your own podcast, but if you don’t have a podcast, you can be on other people’s podcast shows. So you can actually pitch yourself to be on their show and you can pitch a specific topic that you think that their audience would, gain value from. And of course in your pitch, you would want to explain why it would be valuable or how would be valuable and what you can really bring to the table. And there’s lots and lots of resources out there on, the best way to pitch your blog post or pitch yourself to be, interviewed on a podcast.
06:42 So there’s lots of resources out, that you can just Google. So check those out. I’ve seen plenty of them and there’s really, really great stuff out there. other things that you can do on social media is uh, video interviews where people will actually chat video chats and you can post it on, IGTV or Facebook or you can even post it on your own website, your YouTube, whatever your platform is. And there’s another thing that I find really interesting that I see a lot of people do, which is IG takeovers. And it’s where you take over another accounts story for the day and your goal that day is to, and again, this is something you have to pitch to a, another person to partner with. And over the course of that day, you would take over their Instagram stories and you would basically just serve their audience the best that you can.
07:38 So we talked about buying it. The second one is to borrow it, meaning, have partnerships with people. And the third one is to build it building it would be more organic. do it yourself style. So you’re going to mainly do SEO efforts. Your social media following is something that you build and also your email list is something that you build when you build up your email list. which everyone should be doing. So when I said to pick a strategy from each of these sections, that one can’t be your one. You should do something else too because email list building should just be something that you’re already doing. It’s a big part of just creating your business. if you are trying to make money online. So, but your email list can drive a lot of traffic to your website. I get a lot of my website traffic from my email list because every week I send out my content and so as I send out my content, my email list, you know, clicks on the links and it goes to my website.
08:47 So I’m always having eyes on my content. Your social media platforms is also something else that you build that can also drive a lot of traffic to your content. So you want to build up a following by engaging and posting regularly. Uh, you want to post quality, posts of course. And every platform is a little different. And again, there’s lots of great resources out there. I also have taken, Jenna Kutcher’s, I think it’s Instagram lab. I think I took her course and it was really, really good. I really liked it. So there’s lots of ways that you can do that, but building your social media platforms is a really good idea. It’s not something that you want to do that’s going to be the sole way that you communicate with your audience. You want that to be your email list, but there’s lots and lots of value of having, social media platforms built up.
09:48 And, the other thing is your SEO SEO is definitely a long game. to do this you have to own your site. So some people, I’ve had lots of clients that have they use like other platforms to have their site. what’s an example of this? Like they use like an example would be to use your Facebook profile as your website. Obviously you need a website that you host yourself and so, that you manage yourself. And so again, it’s the same thing, quality, consistent content and it needs to be optimized and there’s lots of resources out there about that. I also have, lots of blogs that I can link in the show notes to help you optimize your website for SEO if you want to check that out. and then there’s some other, more technical things if you want to choose that as one of your, building strategies.
10:49 there’s page speed and other things that you should get into. And learn about. There is a book called, let me look it up because I didn’t prepare for it, but it just popped into my head. And it’s a really great book for beginners. it’s called SEO for growth. That’s a really, really great book because it’s so simple to read and to follow has such great advice in there. So if you do want to learn more about building your SEO, I highly, highly recommend that book. It is by SEO for growth by John. I’m not going to try to say his last name. His name’s John though. So definitely check that book out. If you want to use SEO for, one of the ways that you build up a way to get traffic. So the three ways to go over them again is to buy it, borrow it or build it.
