Are you creating enough content to get the results you want?
Creating content is a building block to your business. If you want to build authority and trust online in the wellness industry, consistent content is a must.
While I have talked a lot about consistency recently, you might be wondering how often you need to be pushing out this consistent content. So, in this week’s episode I break it down for you. Every person and business is different, so I help you find the right frequency for you. But don’t worry – I give you a straight simple answer too so you at least have a place to start!
If you are struggling to be consistent or you aren’t getting the results you want, listen to this episode and see if frequency may be a reason!
In this episode, you will learn:
00:00 You are listening to your wellness marketer podcast. And today we’re going to talk about how often you should be creating content. So I did this episode because it’s a common question and I see burnout and frustration a lot and I know that it’s not every one, but people who aren’t frustrated or burned out don’t usually come to me one on one. So it’s what I see all the time. And sometimes it’s the frequency of your content, um, for either why you’re not getting results or why you’re burnt out. And so you have to look at what you want your results to be and if you’re creating enough content for that, um, and you also have to look and see if you’re creating too much content because if you’re creating too much content to the point where your content is lower quality and you’re getting burnt out and frustrated, um, obviously the lower quality is also not going to get you the results that you want.
01:01 So that’s why this frequency really, really matters. Um, so in this episode you will learn why frequency matters, um, how to tell which frequency is right for you. How long you should wait until you change your frequency. What is the best frequency for content? For most businesses? I’m going to give you just a straight answer so you have an idea or at least a starting point and how to create supplementary content. So if you’re at a place where you don’t know which type of content you should be creating at all, or if you are creating content, but you’re not sure if you want to try podcasting or doing videos, you can check out my free quiz. This quiz asks you 10 questions and comes up with which one it is, which one is right for you. And at the end you also get a checklist to get you started in whatever your result was.
01:55 So to find that quiz, you can go to your wellness marketer.com/content quiz. So now let’s get started on talking about why frequency matters. I touched on it a little bit, um, in the sense that if you’re creating too much to the point where your quality of your content is getting lower, obviously that’s an issue. And if you’re creating too little and you’re not putting yourself out there for enough times, that’s also an issue. Um, and that also means that you’re not providing enough value to build that trust. So part of building an audience is having consistency. So this allows people to trust you. If you start building that trust, um, it allows people to take you seriously. It’s really difficult to take someone seriously if you go to their only source of, um, their only place where they produce content, which whether it’s their podcast or their blog and they haven’t blogged or podcasted or done a video or whatever in, you know, two months.
02:57 So you’re going to kind of assume that they’ve checked out. Um, and it looks like they have. Um, so it’s hard to take people seriously. You definitely don’t want people going to your website or going to your social media and not taking you seriously because obviously there’s just like no chance at getting the results that you want. If that’s the case. Um, another thing is that your competitors are all doing it even if you aren’t. So the people that are winning in the space that you’re in, I can guarantee you that they are being consistent. Um, so to do this, uh, consistency, right? It must be at the same day, around the same time. So whatever frequency that is for you, it just needs to be consistent. And so that’s why frequency really, really matters. Um, so to tell which frequency is right for you, it’s going to depend on how you feel, right?
03:49 So are you keeping up effortlessly? If it’s almost too easy, then you should really consider adding more because more content will get you there faster. But again, you don’t want it to be so much where you’re burned out and your quality is getting lower or you are at risk of completely checking out and just burning out and disappearing because that’s obviously not good either. So if it doesn’t have to be the same content, by the way. So if you have a podcast or a blog, you don’t have to just create more blogs or more podcasts. You could keep your frequency and just add more variety. Now you could add a more frequent podcast or blog if you want, but one thing that you can also do is just add, um, more complimentary content. So you can do Facebook or Instagram lives. You can do video trainings, um, like IgE TV, or you can even do trainings in your Instagram stories or your Facebook stories.
04:56 So that’s just one thing that you can do without actually, um, or will a few things that you can do without actually just creating more podcasts or more blogs or more videos. So if it’s way too much, so that’s, if it’s too easy, if it’s way too much, then obviously we’re going to have to lower your frequency. But before you lower your frequency, there are some other things that you need to look at. The first thing is to look at your system, your system for creating content. We want to make sure that it’s not that your frequency is necessarily too much, but we want to make sure that it’s not your system. Um, in creating the content. Are you making it a little more difficult than it needs to be? So you can see if you can outsource pieces of the process or you can also try batch processing, which is really, really effective where you are creating multiple videos or podcasts or blogs, um, all at once and you’re just, um, doing it every four to six weeks or so.
05:56 So if you try something new, you’re changing your frequency or you’re looking at your system, um, or you start out, uh, outsourcing it, you want to wait, um, at least two to three weeks before you actually make an adjustment to your frequency because for one thing, you’re going to get faster at it. So when you’re starting something new or you’re creating a new piece of content that you’ve never created before, using a certain cha channel that you’ve never used before, you’re going to get faster at it. It’s going to take time to fit it into your routine and to really learn it. So once it’s in your routine and a few weeks have passed, if you feel like it’s still not right, then you can adjust. So now that you have some ways to figure out if it’s the right frequency for you based on how you feel and how things are going in your business.
06:45 Um, I know that some people they just want to know like what is usually the best. So just tell me what frequency to use. So if you want results with SEO, um, and to build an online business, um, obviously your strategy’s really important. But for as far as frequency, my favorite is weekly, weekly tends to work really well for most people. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself or your audience. I mean you don’t want to be creating so much content that your audience can’t even consume it depending on what content you are actually creating. So like I said before, you can add other complimentary things to provide more value and honestly you should. So Facebook lives, Instagram lives, the video trainings, doing some IgE TV, doing trainings in your stories, just adding more value in different ways. Um, in that case, creating as much content as possible without lowering the quality is definitely a good idea.
07:51 Um, I just recommend doing, you know, different things and just seeing what works for you. Um, and you can even build a new frequency, a new content plan for those things too. So if you want to add in a Facebook live every other week or something like that, um, that’s always a good idea, especially if you’re going live. So monthly is definitely too little, I think. Um, you want to keep people engaged. So monthly content is, it’s very infrequent and I mean that’s only 12 pieces for an entire year. So, um, I know you all have lots and lots of expertise to share, so 12 pieces an entire year. I mean you definitely have more to share than that. So monthly is too little. Um, also if you are trying to do SEO and get better at that, monthly is also going to be really difficult. Um, because you only have 12 shots at getting ranked, um, aside from your other pages, however many those are.
08:54 So, um, also there’s daily, so you have weekly, which is my favorite monthly, which is a bit too little and daily or two to three times a week can be quite a bit. Now what I’m talking about is your main source of content creation. So that’s going to be your blog, your podcast, your, um, video. Now if you’re doing a short daily podcast or a short daily video, um, it might not be too difficult, but I’m talking about these big pieces of content that you’re putting a lot of work into. Um, so you could put that extra time into creating more supplementary content and building a community.
09:37 So that’s typically the best frequency that works for most people is weekly. Um, if you want some help with consistency, I talk about creating systems and ways to stay on top of your content creation in episode 51.
