If you want to build an online business and become an authority figure in your field, there’s no doubt that you will have to create consistent content. Many people might be fine with creating content, but consistently?
This is where I see many struggle – myself included at one point! Life gets in the way, businesses get crazy and have really busy seasons and it makes it harder to keep up with content creation. Since many of us have clients we have to take care of and operational tasks that can’t be put off, content creation can make its way to the back burner.
In this episode, I give you my best tips to keep your content creation steady no matter how busy things get. I have created systems and ways to stay strategic and consistent, which will get you to your business goals if you keep it up!
What we cover in this episode:
Things I mentioned:
00:00 You are listening to your wellness marketer podcast. I’m Christina, your host. And today we’re going to talk about how to be more consistent with your content. So obviously this is something that is really important because you have to be consistent. If you’re going to build authority and you’re going to have people take you seriously. So one thing I hear the most is that people struggle to be consistent. And I hear this all the time and I myself also used to not be consistent. And since I’ve figured this out, I have not missed weekly content and over a year. And it’s actually not that difficult for me because I’m, despite life events and things happening and traveling and everything that I’ve had going on for the past year, I’ve never missed a piece of content. And there’s a reason for that. And which is why I wanted to go over, um, these, uh, my best tips to help you.
00:57 I found a few ways to make this happen and it’s helped my clients as well. So if you apply these tips, you will be consistent. And, um, consistency is again, really important to gain. Uh, an audience to build authority, to build that trust, to give people a chance to actually like you and also to serve your audience. So what you’re going to learn in this episode is how to produce consistent content, um, how to stay strategic with your content because you don’t want to be also, um, like just scrambling, coming up with things and lose the strategic part of what you’re doing. Um, how to be more flexible for when things get busy, when, uh, whether it’s life happening or your business gets really, really crazy. Um, ways to create a system for your content creation and how to make sure that your content topics stay creative as well.
01:52 Um, I also, if you are in the process of creating your content plan, I do have a content plan training that you can get instant access to. It’s discounted right now, so you can go to your wellness marketer.com/content and check that out. So let’s get started on these tips on how to be consistent. Um, the first one is to have a system. So you likely have some sort of system. So whether it’s an effective one or not, but you want to break out your tasks and one of the things that you can do is have a specific date for each task. So if you write a blog, you can break out your tasks into, um, the creation part, the research part, or creating the graphics for it or building the blog posts, like all of these different steps that you have to take with each blog.
02:46 You can have a specific day for each of those tasks. And, um, in my training, I also help you do this, um, in the content training that or the content plan training that I mentioned before. Another thing that you can do is you can batch process them. I highly recommend this because it’s just, it’s a lot easier for me and it’s a lot easier for most of my clients. Not all of my clients batch process, but most of them do. And it’s really, there’s a good reason for it because whenever you are in the zone of writing or maybe you’re on, you know, you’re doing your podcast or you’re doing video and you’re dressed up or you’re ready and you’re prepared for it, whatever those different steps are, um, coming up or going ahead and knocking out a few at a time is, um, really, really helpful.
03:35 And it also makes it where you’re always pretty ahead, which is really important. And, um, if there are certain parts of your tasks, part of this process of breaking out your tasks and the different parts of creating your content, you can really use this opportunity to see if there’s something in this process that you can outsource it. So another thing that you can do with your system is to outsource it and hire a VA. um, so you can find a different websites to find a VA. you can, um, talk with people that you know in your industry and just kind of network and see if they have someone that they can recommend. And you can find an a VA that has experience in content creation or the things that you need to do. Some of them have a lot of technical skills. So you can have a VA work.
04:25 Even if you don’t have a big budget, you can be a small budget, just a couple of hours a week even just to take some of those tasks off of your hands so you can really focus on the content creation part. So that’s the first thing is to have a system. The second thing is to be ahead. Never ever made content as you go. So if you are making content, you know each week for the following week, like you’re making content for something that’s supposed to be published in a couple of days. This is really a danger zone because things happen and there’s going to be times where you’re going to need some flexibility, rain or shine, your content must go out. You have to be that consistent for um, forever, honestly. So you’d never want to, you don’t want to miss content. Now it does happen. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s not something that you want to do.
05:22 You don’t want to miss, um, putting out your content. So if you are making content as you go, you are really setting yourself up to not be able to handle anything that gets in your way and so much could happen. So if you aren’t batch processing, now, if you’re batch processing, you want to try to do about three to six weeks at a time, um, that should be fairly doable depending on what kind of content you create and what your schedule looks like. And you know, how much, uh, how big of blocks of time you can actually take out. But once you hit two weeks out, you should start to do another batch. So if you are not doing batch processing and you are doing it weekly, so you’re doing the where the system, where each part of, or each task that you have for your content creation is done on specific days.
06:13 So like every Tuesday you’re writing your blog and every Wednesday you are editing it and optimizing it. And every Thursday and so on. If you’re doing it like that, that’s fine, but you want to be at least two weeks ahead. So if there is something that happens in that week and you aren’t able to finish out that piece of content, you still have two more weeks to catch up and to catch up, obviously you’re gonna have to do a little bit of batch processing just to get you back to where you were. But if you’re two weeks ahead, that’s usually enough buffer time to take on whatever is thrown your way and you won’t. No one will actually know that that happened or that you went a week without creating content because all of your content is still going out as scheduled. So that’s the second thing.
06:59 The third thing is to have a content plan. So it’s so much easier to move forward with content creation when all of your topics are laid out for you. So you want your plan to be as thorough and well thought out as possible and you don’t want to be coming up with content topics as you go. If you come up with content topics as you go, you’re likely to be less strategic. You are likely to be less consistent because you’re going to have weeks where you’re not as you know, creative or in this creative space to come up with these strategic content topics. So if you are having a week like that, um, you might end up just doing something on a topic that isn’t as strategic as it would have been if you did your entire plan all at once and you can actually see how it all goes together and some busier weeks just might have those topics that aren’t as creative.
07:57 Um, content creation and content strategy should be done separately. So when you’re creating your content strategy, you’re in, you’re mentally in a different place and again, you want to be able to see it all together and see how it flows and what kind of journey you are bringing your audience on. So those are my biggest tips on, um, making sure that you are going to be more consistent with your content. And that is to have a system with that system. You can break out your tasks for each day or batch process it. And also remember that whenever you are going through your task, see if there’s something that you can outsource. Um, you always also want to be ahead and not make content as you go and you want to be at least two weeks out. And if you are batch processing, try and create three to six weeks of content at a time. Um, and the last thing is to have a content plan and make sure that you’re using that creative space for coming up with the content topics and how they flow and building your content plan and doing that as separate time than you’re actually creating each piece of content.
09:08 So if you are in the process of creating your content plan or you need help with that, I do have my training discounted. You get instant access to it, and it also comes with a toolkit that helps you. It’s full of templates and things that you can just fill in and it’ll show you how to fill in your templates and how they work together and how to come up with all of these content topics. Be strategic so that you’re not ever having to scramble to figure out what piece of content to make next. You can stay creative and strategic and also consistent, which is super important.
