There are so many amazing ways to create REALLY good content for your audience that they can learn, get results and interact with.
In this episode, I go through the steps you need to take to see which type of lead magnet is for you and what you’re wanting to offer.

00:00 Hey everyone. So today in this episode I’m going to go through the process of trying to choose what kind of lead magnet to create. There’s so many options here. And so you want to obviously create a lead magnet that makes the most sense for what you’re trying to achieve and whatever type of lead magnet is going to bring the most value to your audience. And I also want to point out that I am hosting a lead magnet creation workshop on October 14th. And if you are a pro at creating lead magnets and your lead magnets convert really, really well, this workshop is not for you. This workshop is for people who are wanting to learn how to create them without hiring anyone to create them for them. And it’s also we’re going to go over how to make lead magnets purposeful and convert really well and how they fit into your strategy and just make sure that they do and that you’re accomplishing what you want out of the lead magnet.

02:15 Okay, so let’s get started on how to choose what type of lead magnet to use. I think one thing that a lot of people miss. Whenever I do get a new client and they want a new lead magnet and I look at their older ones, one thing I noticed that is a big trend is that people are not, well I should say business owners are not thinking about the goal of the lead magnet. And we’re also forgetting often that this is really often, everyone’s first impression of us. So when we put something out there, it’s got to be extremely valuable. It has to match our brand really, really well. And it’s gotta be something that is attracting the right audience and the right people who might want what we have to offer, whether that is our services or if you have a membership site or an online course or anything like that, whatever your end end goal that is going to help you with your mission and support your business, you want to make sure that your lead magnet is attracting the right kind of people.
03:23 And that’s really, really important. You can put out a really pretty checklist or something like that, but if it’s not extremely valuable and the person who’s getting the lead magnet, is not getting some sort of quick win out of it and not some sort of value that ties into you and what you have or what you are able to provide, it’s not going to do its job. And also if it’s very disconnected from what you want them to eventually do with you, whether it, again, whether it’s your services or join your membership site, if the topic is too disconnected, you’re going to have a big email list of a lot of people who wouldn’t be interested in your product. So you have to make sure that this lead magnet serves that purpose. Which is the first step, which is to find out what this lead magnet’s purpose is.
04:19 It should bridge the gap between someone who doesn’t know who you are or is just like not super familiar with you. From that point in the person’s journey with you to making a sell or working with you or whatever the end goal is. So it’s supposed to bridge that gap. So that’s the purpose of it. And so you need to know what that gap is and how you’re going to bridge it. And so you want to create some goals for your lead magnet, help people get to know you is a good one. And then also attracting the right audience. Again, your topic needs to be in line with what you are wanting to eventually do with your audience. But for now, just to find out which type to start with. Do want to think about your topic really well.
05:15 Decide on a quick win first and then before you come up with what kind of lead magnet you’re going to do. And so when you come up with a topic, you want to think about what the results you want them to have. And when you think about the result you want them to have in your topic, then you want to think about what is the best way to teach this. So think about your topic, what your goal is for them to have. So what kind of transformation or quick when you want them to have from this lead magnet and what is the best way to teach that. So if it’s visual, then you know, it’s going to be more videos and graphics and if it’s interactive or if it’s something that’s educational, something that you can just write into a PDF. So let’s go over those different types.
06:10 We’re going to go over visual, interactive and educational. Those are the three main different types of lead magnets. There are so many, so many options that could never go over all of them. Nor could I ever think of all of the possibilities because really there’s so many ways to provide value for people. So let’s talk about visual. So visual lead magnets can be videos. These are the, you know, most common way and video lead magnets. I’ve had a lot of my clients use actually because a lot of my clients tend to really like video, which is great. And they convert really well am, and it’s a really great way for people to get to know you right away. Within a couple of sentences of you talking in the video, if the video is of you, they already kind of have an idea of like what you’re like and so they’re able to make a connection with you and immediately start to build a relationship with you.
07:14 So videos are really, really great. And if you are choosing a transformation or a quick win of something that people would really benefit from to see it happening and to give you the chance to demonstrate how to do something, then video is a really good choice. And so you can either have a video of someone or if you talking and so it could be a recording of you or you could have a video of you doing something. You’re demonstrating how to do something. Or you can also have a graphics video, so it can just be all graphics but still demonstrating something or it can be a screen grab. So if you are teaching someone how to do something, you know, on their computer or something like that you know, maybe you’re teaching someone how to log their meals. Into my fitness pal.
08:11 That would be something that, you know, you could do a screen grab video of and other visual things that you can do, don’t have to be active like a video, but also just graphs and graphics. If that is the best way to teach what you’re trying to teach definitely choose that kind of lead magnet.
08:30 The other things that you can do is interactive lead magnets. Some examples might be quizzes. So if you are trying to allow someone to find out, like right now I have a quiz that is how powerful is your marketing strategy and you can take the, and I have all of the questions and answers mapped out to where it will actually show you your weak parts in your marketing strategy. So whenever you take the quiz, it’s like 10 questions and you will get a result based off of your answers and it will tell you which part of your marketing strategy needs the most help.And so that’s a really, I mean it’s a, it’s a lot of work, but it’s a really great lead magnet. And you’re giving something really, really valuable because it’s very customized. And every person who uses that lead magnet, they’re getting their own unique experience in their own unique value from it. Other ways are that are interactive like tests or templates. Tests are really good too. If you are, if someone wants to see like how well they know something or how far along they are in a journey. And templates are also really, really great too because those actually in my experience convert so well as far as I’m building a list. Quizzes are really great too, but templates, everyone loves a template. So these templates can either be like a script form, like maybe you know, like an email script or something like that.
10:15 Or they can be like workbook style where it’s a template of something that people fill out. So they’re interacting with it because they’re filling out their answers and maybe, you know, at some point they get some sort of result out of their answers. So those are just a few. And like I said, there are so many more than what I am listing out today. The other one is educational. So this is a way that you can also repurpose a lot of content that you’re doing. You can take a blog post or a podcast or a video that you’ve done and you can put it into a PDF. And so you can just make a nice designed PDF. In my workshop we’re going to be talking the most about, PDF lead magnets because they are the simplest to create most of the time. And so some other things you can do with just creating and education and educational piece which is in a PDF form is doing worksheets or cheat sheets.
11:22 So those are just some options that you can do. So either visually, interactively, or educationally. Those are just some ideas. Some other ideas that you could do, are event tickets or giveaways. Those are really common. If your goal is to, you know, build up your email list and grow your audience with people that are fitting to whatever you’re offering specific event tickets or giveaway items, those can be very niche down to very specific things that you know your audience would want. So when choosing the kind of lead magnet that you want to create, just remember that you want to start at the beginning and think about the purpose of that lead magnet and what kind of transformation that you want to provide in what the best way to help them achieve that. And so that is what I have for you today.

13:32 And I also have suggestions for some really easy to use like drag and drop tools that create really, really beautiful lead magnets without having, or without being really techie or with a lot of design experience. So in the workshop we’re going to go over I’m creating the purpose of your lead magnet. Like I talked about today and how to fit it in with your strategy. All the different types of lead magnets and all the steps that you have to take to create it and to outline it and your call to action and how to position that. And also just again, how to design it and design it yourself without hiring someone else.
